BEAUTY TALK: Backstage at Byblos S/S 2016 Fashion Show
Looking around for the backstages of Milan Fashion Week, we noticed how the biggest trend is nude makeup for next summer 2016: the main focus is the base makeup that have to be extremely natural without any visible makeup layers and layers. A little of foundation is used sparingly, concealer only when needed, in order to obtain a transparent and luminous look. Yet the skin is still flawless.
So, eyes are often nude and understated. Well, this is not true for beauty look at Byblos Spring Summer 2016 fashion show where the main focus is the eyelook.
Terry Barber, director of makeup artistry at MAC Cosmetics, told us how he wanted to enhance the eyes with a contemporary eyeliner, extremely graphic and simple.
Instead of the classic black, he chose a bright colour that is a bright light blue. However, this technique doesn’t take inspiration from 90’s beauty trend but recalls the contemporary, avant-garde art. This is a squared eyeliner starting from the crease of the upper lid. It immediately reminds Picasso’s paintings, as the makeup artist pointed out.
As for the skin and the base makeup, Terry Barber totally follows the latest trend. So, no heavy coverage in order to avoid an artificial, weighty look. The finish is extremely luminous and dewy as the skin has this beautiful shine coming from inside. For this kind of look he massaged the infamous Strobe Cream and then a very sheer wash of foundation with a lightweight texture. So the skin is able to reflect the light on its own, especially on the cheekbones, along the nose, on the brow bone and around the eyes, on the Cupid’s bow and on the chin.
The main key word is keep it simple. The beauty is enhanced in a natural way, almost without any effort. There is no use of heavy highlight/contour construction. That heavy, suffocating contouring à la Kardashian is not a trend anymore and definitely it is nothing beauty. At least, it’s nothing useful for the real women on a daily basis.
Nowadays we get a great help from technology: the new-generation textures are extremely weightless and blendable, they melt into the skin and give you that beautiful, natural looking, from within luminosity. Really similar to mother of pearl effect, the skin is blurred, smooth, more plumped and almost lifted.
