Chanel S/S 2016 Fashion Show from Paris Fashion Week

Thanks to Karl Lagerfeld’s genius, Chanel is always the greatest show during fashion month, hands down.

This time, Paris’ Grand Palais has been completely transformed into an airport where Chanel Airlines company was born. Were we attending a fashion show or were we Lost in Translation? With a bit of futuristic touch, directly from Star Trek’s Enterprise.

To welcome us at check-in counters, cool, almost frozen hostesses with double ponytails and wedge sandals with luminous soles or open booties in silver leather and transparent plastic. The leading role has been played by a new trolley, the ‘Coco Case’ as called by Karl Lagerfeld itself: it is immediately became the new IT item for next Spring/Summer season.Chanel S/S 2016

What about the colours? All shades of blue, from sky to midnight, paired with a lot of white and grey. Some vivacious touches of red and pink with a sprinkle of black. Plus, floral and multi-colour patterns which are always a must during spring. Thick fabrics such as tweed, denim and leather are paired with lightweight textiles like tulle, silk and lace. The cut is strict and straight with an ethereal fluidity.

Thanks to Karl Lagerfeld’s art, every piece becomes iconic. The classic suit becomes absolute: there’s no collar, pockets nor buttons and yet it is immediately recognizable. Jackets are double-breasted, in cotton tweed with large silver buttons, half-hidden, and are hemmed with a new braid that is photographed, then printed, and covered with silicon. The skirts are long, flared or with full pleats, worn even with trousers.Chanel S/S 2016

The sky and flight theme are played in an ironic way with codes and prints on the pieces from this collection. A big impact is given by makeup: a pale blue with glitters is all around the eyes, just like an eyeglasses mask. The airy mood is enhanced by wide lines that amplify the volumes.

The Chanel Spring/Summer 2016 woman is a fierce, indipendent traveller, who wants to enjoy new experiences and andventures and likes to travel comfy but elegant at the same time.Chanel S/S 2016

All spotlights were on Karl Lagerfeld’s muses, here as couples: Vanessa Paradis with her super lovely daughter Lily-Rose Depp and Cara Delevingne with her fiancée St. Vincent.
